The Little House Christmas Tree 2011
A very Merry Christmas to All and hopefully a wonderful and Happy New Year
I made this to honor my parents who love animals and birds. They always taught us to appreciate nature and to be responsible in its care.
My Mother especially has always encouraged my artistic endeavors and Daddy didn't complain too much when I would "borrow" his tools as a teenager.
Thank you, Mother and Daddy for a great childhood and your continued love and support!
(The birds are made from Qtips/cotton swabs-buds; painted with acrylic craft paint; micro bead eyes and paper beaks, wings and head feathers. The glittery branches are made of dried weed roots gathered from my back yard, "painted" with glue and dredged into silver and white glitter.

A Little Tree from the Little House
I began by cutting graduating pieces of olive green chenille stem ranging from 1 inch to 1 and 1/2 inch (branch pieces). I also cut 1 inch lengths to wrap around the ends of each "branch" piece. When you think you have enough, make more. I used a whole package for this one little tree. I made a cone of medium weight card and glued in closed. After it dried I then painted the outside of the cone with olive green acrylic craft paint. Then I poked holes all over the cone with my needle tool. Starting at the top with the shorter branches, I dipped each end in a tiny bit of Crafter's Pick Ultimate Glue and stuck them into the holes going all the way around. Since my holes were pretty close together my tree was very dense in foliage. It ended up being about 3 inches tall. My Mother brought some small acorn caps that she retrieved from a fallen branch at the park, thinking that they looked like a sort of bird's nest. I need to find a few more of these and I will fill them with very finely cut brown paper bag to look like a fluffy straw nest inside each cup. I will then place little blue eggs and brownish speckled eggs into each "nest" and add bluebirds and cardinals to the open spaces in between the nests. If I make another I will make it taller, probably 7 inches.
